Unconditional Romantic Love The question becomes whether adults in relationships can also show each other this type of unconditional love. The problem is that this definition in romantic relationships can break down under numerous conditions and for good reason. As much as you might love an alcoholic, a liar, or a cheater unconditionally, this isnt healthy for you as a person. This means the definition of unconditional love in romantic relationships needs to be expanded a bit. For love to continue, there must be mutual respect, not an attitude of your partner that you will put up with me, no matter what I do. Unconditional Positive Regard This brings us to the topic of unconditional positive regard, probably a closer approximation of what we mean by unconditional love in relationships. In this sense, unconditional love doesnt mean always giving people what they want or always accepting what they do, at the expense of your own needs. Instead, it is a mature type of love that means treating the other person with love and respect, even while maintaining your boundaries and protecting yourself. Whereas the immature version of unconditional love would have you feeling as though you must be everything to the other person, the mature version has you recognize that your only obligation, in the face of the others behavior, is to communicate your message with love and respect. This means being attentive and attuned, even while you are setting limits and boundaries. It also means honoring the requests of others when you are able to do so without harming yourself. It means not being harsh or dismissive, as this does not lead to compromise or solutions. At its core, this is assertivenessâ€"letting the other person know where you stand so that together you can work out the best outcome for the two of you together. How to Love Unconditionally When we think about how to go about loving someone unconditionally in a relationship, the following points emerge: Practice open communication, so that both of your needs can be met.Communicate in a non-defensive way. Unconditional love means seeing past the squabbles about the little things in life. If a relationship is hurting you more than it is good to you, it is okay to feel unconditional love but let the relationship go. Unconditional love is basic goodness and the total acceptance of someone, but it does not mean tolerating abuse, neglect, or other deal breakers. What about the less clear area of falling out of love with someone? If you still show them unconditional love, you will find a way to kindly and gently end the relationship.   In essence, when we first fall in love, its in an unconditional state, and we cant ever imagine not feeling this way about the other person. But we live in a conditional world, and relationships do end. We all have different tastes and needs, and these can change over time. Salt is the only mineral that people eat—its  the only dietary mineral thats really  a mineral. Its a common substance thats been sought by animals and humans alike since the beginning of time. Salt comes from the sea and from solid layers underground, and thats all most of us need to know. But if youre curious, lets go a bit deeper. The Truth About Sea Salt We all know that the sea collects salt, but that isnt really true. The sea only collects the ingredients of salt. Heres how it  works. The sea takes in dissolved matter from two sources:  rivers that enter it and volcanic activity on the seafloor. The rivers mainly provide mainly ions from the weathering of rocks—unpaired atoms with a lack or excess of electrons. The major ions are various silicates, various carbonates, and the alkali metals sodium, calcium, and potassium.   Seafloor volcanoes mainly  provide hydrogen and chloride ions. All these mix and match: sea organisms build shells from calcium carbonate and silica, clay minerals take up potassium, and the hydrogen is snapped up in lots of different places. After all the electron swapping is done, sodium ion from rivers and chloride ion from volcanoes are the two survivors.  Water loves these two ions and can hold large amounts of them in solution. But sodium and chloride form an association and drop out of the water when they  become concentrated enough. They precipitate as solid salt, sodium chloride, the mineral halite. When we taste salt, our tongues instantly dissolve it into sodium and chloride ions again. Salt Tectonics Halite is a very delicate mineral. It doesnt last long on the earths surface unless water never touches it. Salt is also physically weak. Rock salt—the stone composed of halite—flows much like ice under quite moderate pressure. The dry Zagros Mountains  in the Iranian desert feature some notable salt glaciers. So does the continental slope of the Gulf of Mexico where theres so much buried salt it can emerge faster than the sea dissolves it. Besides flowing downward as glaciers, salt can rise upward into overlying rock beds as buoyant, balloon-shaped bodies. These salt domes are widespread in the south  central U.S. Theyre noteworthy because petroleum often rises along with them, making them attractive drilling targets. Theyre also handy for mining salt. Salt beds form  in playas and larger isolated mountain basins like the Great Salt Lake of Utah and  the Salar de Uyuni of Bolivia. The chloride comes from land volcanism in these places. But the large underground salt beds that are mined in many countries formed at sea level in a very different setting from todays world. Why Salt Exists Above Sea Level Most of the land we live on is only temporarily above sea level because the ice of Antarctica is holding so much water out of the ocean. Over all of geologic history, the sea sat as much as 200 meters higher than it does  today. Subtle vertical crustal motions can isolate large areas of water in the shallow, flat-bottomed seas that normally cover much of the continents and  dry up and precipitate their salt. Once formed, these salt beds can be easily covered by limestone or shale and preserved. In a few million years, maybe less, this natural salt harvest might start happening again as the ice caps melt and the sea rises. The thick salt beds under southern Poland have been mined for many centuries. The great Wieliczka mine,  with its chandeliered salt ballrooms and carved salt chapels, is a world-class tourist attraction. Other salt mines are also changing their image from the worst kind of workplaces to magical subterranean playgrounds.

The Dove Pro-Age Campaign is different and shocking to the eyes of US media that it was banned in the US because it showed too much skin. This statement by Dostoyevsky in Crime and Punishment reflects the paradox of human civilization, whereby the settings of St. Petersburg and the Siberian prison reflect this political view. The Siberian prison, where Raskolnikov is imprisoned, is based on Dostoevskys own experience of being exiled and locked up in prison. This prison is also where Dostoyevsky writes through a religious call for redemption through suffering. By setting the novel in St. Petersburg, Dostoevsky draws attention to the miserable social conditions that existed in Russia during the time of intense loss, humiliation, and rage. Dostoyevsky uses a satirical analysis of liberal politics to reinforce his socialist values and criticizes the separation of the ordinary class and the superman class. St. Petersburg is usually thought of as a beautiful city with fabulous buildings and art; however, there is a much more impoverished side of the city. Almost all of the characters, including Raskolnikov, are alienated from society; thus, this renders him sympathetic to a degree. Although Dostoyevsky depicts the crime and the environment it takes place with great realism, he is more interested in the psychology of the murderer than in the external specifics of the crime. In Crime and Punishment, Dostoevsky presents the setting of St. Petersburg as a microcosm of Raskolnikovs character and Russian society in general and ironically presents the Siberian prison as a hospital for criminals rather than a continuation of suffering. First and foremost, St. Petersburg serves as a microcosm of Raskolnikovs character while his character is ironically a microcosm of St. Petersburg as well. Starting with Raskolnikovs room, it symbolizes violence, abuse, and chaos as do the other homes in the novel, and is also metaphor for psychological confinement. This room takes on a character of its own. It illustrates Raskolnikovs mental turmoil, becomes an image of him to others, and reinforces his degenerate state. It was a tiny little cubby-hole of a place, no more than six paces long and so low that anybody of even a little more than average height felt uncomfortable in it (25). Raskolnikovs first thought is loathing revulsion at his miserable existence. His disgust at his room mirrors readers revulsion at life in general in Petersburg. The description of the room itself creates a feeling of claustrophobia, for it is a mare six paces long with a ceiling too low to stand. From its first appearance, Raskolnikovs room is quite horrible and oppressive, yet by the end of the passage, he seems to find it agreeable. Although a more slovenly and degraded manner of life could hardly have been imagined, it suited Raskolnikovs present mood (Dostoyevsky). Just as Raskolnikov shifts between confidence and doubt, he ironically changes his feelings about his living conditions, which renders ambivalence for the reader. As he alters between loathings for his room and ironically feeling comfortable and depressed, his shifting relation with the room reveals the dual nature of his character. However, the room demands more attention as a tragic/comic setting and as a manifestation of inner psychological turmoil. It is likely that the room also creates th e turmoil within Raskolnikov; the desire to break free. He acknowledges his own rooms deeper function as motivator At last it began to seem close and stuffy in the shabby little room, so like a box or cupboard. His eyes and his thoughts both craved more space (33). This oppressive physical environment of the room constrains him, depresses him and darkens his thoughts, but later, his surroundings embolden him. The room embodies St. Petersburg, and Petersburg is a symbol of the cruelties of the modernizing world. Beyond symbolism, the room is also a direct cause of Raskonikovs condition and actions. His mother Pulkcheria claims it is responsible for at least half of his depression (Dostoyevsky). The physical conditions Raskolnikov experiences affect him greatly. His miserable existence of his room must have led him to value his own life less. With a view of how brutal his own life is, Rodya eventually questions the value of life in general. Zen Description What is "Zen" It is a conservative view of some, that the world is a very strange place. Once upon a time, four men and a woman all wished they could meet the perfect person. Each in his or her own way received a message to be at a certain bar at a time and at the third stool from the left, the perfect person would be sitting. The woman got there early, and sat down in the fourth seat to wait. As the time grew closer, she decided it wouldn't hurt to "freshen up" and popped into the bathroom. Just as the door to the bath room closed, the first man a Priest, came in. He looked wildly around the room for a second, and then gazed toward the third seat. Seeing no one there, a look of relief crossed his face. "Thank you, Lord! I fell to a temptation to sin. And you allowed me to see the error of my ways." he muttered. Just as the priest was leaving, the second man a Buddhist, came in. He looked serenely around the room for a moment, the then gazed upon the third seat.
