How Racism Effected the Game of Baseball and the Lives of African Americans Introduction Racial tension has been around since the foundation of the United States. The climax of racism in the United States started near the twentieth century (PBS, 2003). The south had many racial segregation laws and restrictions. Black men were victims of propaganda and were thought as ravening beasts lusting after white women (PBS, 2003). This was a tactic used to justify lynching. African Americans had to constantly fight for their rights and justice in the country. As time passed on, change needed to be made in order to create cohesiveness is the country. Alexanders first great accomplishment occurred when he was just sixteen years old. At this time, his father went away to war leaving Alexander to serve as a regent of Macedon. During his fathers absence, Alexander led an expe dition to a wild region that is now known as modern day Bulgaria. Once there, he subdued the rebellious barbarians and established his first city, Alexandropolis. On the return from his trip, King Philip was so impressed by his sons achievement that he appointed him a general in the royal army. Endosymbiotic Theory The endosymbiotic theory is the accepted mechanism for how eukaryotic cells evolved from prokaryotic cells. First published by Lynn Margulis in the late 1960s, the Endosymbiont Theory proposed that the main organelles of the eukaryotic cell were actually primitive prokaryotic cells that had been engulfed by a different, bigger prokaryotic cell. The term endosymbiosis means to cooperate inside. Whether the larger cell provided protection for the smaller cells, or the smaller cells provided energy to the larger cell, this arrangement seemed to be mutually beneficial to all of the prokaryotes. While this sounded like a far-fetched idea at first, the data to back it up is undeniable. The organelles that seemed to have been their own cells include the mitochondria and, in photosynthetic cells, the chloroplast. Both of these organelles have their own DNA and their own ribosomes that do not match the rest of the cell. This indicates that they could survive and reproduce on their own. In fact, the DNA in the chloroplast is very similar to photosynthetic bacteria called cyanobacteria. The DNA in the mitochondria is most like that of the bacteria that causes typhus. Before these prokaryotes were able to undergo endosymbiosis, they first most likely had to become colonial organisms. Colonial organisms are groups of prokaryotic, single-celled organisms that live in close proximity to other single-celled prokaryotes. Even though the individual single-celled organisms remained separate and could survive independently, there was some sort of advantage to living close to other prokaryotes. Whether this was a function of protection or a way to get more energy, colonialism has to be beneficial in some manner for all of the prokaryotes involved in the colony. Once these single-celled living things were within close enough proximity to one another, they took their symbiotic relationship one step further. The larger unicellular organism engulfed other, smaller, single-celled organisms. At that point, they were no longer independent colonial organisms but instead were one large cell. When the larger cell that had engulfed the smaller cells went to divide, copies of the smaller prokaryotes inside were made and passed down to the daughter cells. Eventually, the smaller prokaryotes that had been engulfed adapted and evolved into some of the organelles we know of today in eukaryotic cells like the mitochondria and chloroplasts. Other organelles eventually arose from these first organelles, including the nucleus where the DNA in a eukaryote is housed, the endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi Apparatus. In the modern eukaryotic cell, these parts are known as membrane-bound organelles. They still do not appear in prokaryotic cells like bacteria and archaea but are present in all organisms classified under the Eukarya domain.

These foods are derived from genetically modified organisms (GMOs), specifically, genetically modified crops. GMOs have had specific changes introduced into their DNA by genetic engineering techniques. Genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, are created when a gene from one species is transferred to another, creating something that would not be found in nature. GMOs are present in almost sixty percent of all processed foods including vegetable oil, Soya flour, lecithin, and Soya proteins. GMO maize products make up approximately fifty percent of processed foods including corn, cornstarch, and corn syrups. Beets, sugar, dairy products, and soybeans are also produced through genetic engineering. The six major GMO crops are Soy, Corn, Canola, Cotton, sugar beets and alfalfa. Have you ever wondered what may be causing the food allergies you or your children have? It is most likely due to GMOs. By drawing out proteins from foods and modifying other foods with them, there is a much greater chance of cross contamination of allergens. Without proper identification, this could be devastating if not deadly for those with serious food allergies. For example, a person that is allergic to peanuts (common allergen) may be also allergic to tomatoes that have had the peanut protein injected into them. Without knowing, the person may eat the tomato and have an allergic reaction to it not realizing that the tomato was genetically modified. So now, there will be more people that can develop allergies to tomatoes. Children, especially under the age of two, are more prone to develop allergies to GMO foods because they have the greatest number of reactions to new allergens in foods. They are particularly vulnerable to GM corn, which contains an allergen not found in natural varieties. Over the last several years, the greatest rise in food allergies was to soy products. In fact, ââ¬Å"Soy allergies skyrocketed by 50% in the UK, soon after GM soy was introducedâ⬠. (1) Eating a diet with non-GMOs will also help to keep you healthy. GMOs have been linked to existing diseases and new diseases. In particular, genetically engineered corn and soy can wreak havoc on your health by promoting obesity and contributing to diseases. According to an article featured on a health website by Dr. Mercola, a well-known American physician: ââ¬Å"The results show a positive link between GE corn and obesity. Animals fed a GE corn diet got fatter quicker and retained the weight compared to animals fed a non-GE grain diet. The studies were performed on rats, mice, pigs and salmon, achieving the same results. â⬠ââ¬Å"This not only may relate to a rise in obesity, but to increases in many modern diseases. These diseases include diabetes, digestive disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, colitis, autism spectrum disorders (ASD) (ADD), autoimmune diseases, sexual dysfunction, sterility, asthma, COPD and many more. (2) If you are concerned about the plight of starving people in the world, GMOs are not the answer for global food security or for reducing world hunger. Although biotech companies have argued that GM crops grow bigger and produce more food, which can help curb the poverty issue in the world, that is actually not the case. Genetically engineered crops have shown no increase in yield. In many cases other farm technology has proven much more successful, and even Monsanto, the worldââ¬â¢s largest GM seed company, agrees that its genetically engineered crops yield less than conventional farming. In fact, when Monsanto attempted to introduce GM hybrid wheat to Europe for its cereal market, it revealed that the growth in hybrid wheat had failed to materialise. Our lack of success in hybrids means this is no longer a good strategic fit for Monsanto. (3). If you do not want to worry about the relationship between GMOs and food allergies and if you are concerned about the health risks associated with consuming GM foods, avoid purchasing GM foods. Here are some tips to help you to avoid purchasing and consuming GM foods. Look for 100% organic products, which means that all ingredients in the product are organic. Look for ââ¬Å"non-GMOâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Made without genetically modified ingredientsâ⬠labels. Avoid at risk ingredients like soy, corn, cottonseed, canola, sugar beets, and alfalfa. In addition, consumers can change the GMO practices of food manufacturers. You can get together with your local community and start a petition to demand that GMOs be eliminated from the food supply. ââ¬Å"HOW SHOULD I MAKE MONEY?â⬠Businesses nowadays do what they have to do to get the job done, as far as making profit and succeeding in their goals. They complete these goals by any means necessary and in my opinion they should be held responsible for their actions. Sure what they do can sometime bring in profit, but looking ahead, theyââ¬â¢re doing things against public interest and in the long run it will ruin their companies. They should allow us as a people to know whatââ¬â¢s going on so we can better informed. In their eyes what we donââ¬â¢t know wonââ¬â¢t hurt us, but in actuality it does In Friedmans ââ¬Å"The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its Profits.â⬠Friedman argues that the manager is an agent of the shareholders, responsible mainly for the profit they seek, and for following the rules of society, being both legal and ethical, meaning they there is no fraud or coercion and there is free competition. He considers the talk of ââ¬Å"social responsibility of businessâ⬠to be misguided, indicative of a trend toward socialism. He argues that to decide to sacrifice profit for some collective social good is to, in effort, collect taxes and decide how they are to be spent, which is reserved for the political process. Non-elected company managers should not be doing this. In business, Friedman believes, people do what they choose to do, while in politics the majority rules. But that political process should be kept to a minimum and kept out of business. Friedman believes this applies also to ââ¬Å"the newer phenomenon of calling upon stockholders to require corporations to exercise social responsibility.â⬠This is just one group trying to get some other people to do what that group considers important. He does allow, though, that a proprietor not a corporation is free to spend his money on good causes, even though it may affect customers, etc., because he has not monopoly. (If it is too costly he will cease to be competitive.) Finally, Friedman believes that some of the ââ¬Å"social responsibility ââ¬Å" that is talked about is just ââ¬Å"window-dressingâ⬠and serves the interests of the company by enhancing profit. He finds this dishonest but on his own principles he cannot disagree with it, since it is done in the interests of profit. In Christopher D. Project Risk Management Plan Essay
The purpose of the risk management plan is to identify any event or condition that may occur which could have a positive or negative affect on the project. Risks management is the process of identifying, assessing, responding to, monitoring, and reporting risks. The Risks Management Plan will define how risks associated with the Baderman Island Casino Hotel project will be identified, analyzed, and managed. The plan will outline how risks management activities will be performed, recorded, and monitored throughout the project. The plan will also provide a template and practices for recording and prioritizing risks. The risks management plan has been created by the project manager during the planning phase of the Baderman Island Casino-Hotel project and the intended audience is the project team, project sponsors, and management. Executive Summary Baderman Island has recently been approached with an offer to construct the Silverââ¬â¢s Casino-Hotel on the grounds of the resort. With a downturn in the hospitality industry, volatile gas prices and current economic uncertainties, the Board of Directors and operational leaders believe the proposal could benefit the island. The casino will bring jobs to the local area, along with increasing revenues for the surrounding businesses. Along with jobs and increasing revenue, the casino-hotel will bring gaming as well as a blend of attractions and entertainment for the visitors to the island (University of Phoenix, 2014). Project Summary The hotel-casino will take 30 months to complete, beginning in November 2014, and will cost approximately $40 million to construct. Additional cost for roads and ferries for transporting materials, construction equipment, and workers to and from the island will be approximately two million dollars. The schedule for the roads and transportation will take three months withà the roads needing to be completed prior to construction of the hotel-casino. Budget and time are obvious constraints, but the team also needs to consider the constraints the natural resources and botanical gardens will put on the project. The quality of work on the roads and construction will need to meet the standards of the island resort without interruption to the existing activities and guest experiences. Risks Management Strategy and Process Determining project risks and responses to those risks are done by following risk management procedures. Risks management procedures include quantitative risks management, risks and control assessment, and project auditing. These procedures help the project team and stakeholders stay up to date on the latest developments with the project and help them to adhere to the risk management principles (eHow, 2014). Quantitative risks management helps project manager identify risks in short-term project or long-term initiative. Statistical skills and math expertise are applied to build control tools and methodologies. These tools identify, measure, and monitor operational, financial, and technological risks in a project. Once the risks have been identified the risks and control assessment is used to determine the level at which the risks may impact the project. The risks are categorized in levels that will reflect the likelihood of the risks occurring and the severity of its impact on the pr oject. To manage the risks as the project is in progress audits will be conducted. Audits will identify any area where corrections or adjustments may need to be made. Risk Identification Every project has risk and the proposed casino-hotel project is no different. The risk identification process must be comprehensive to avoid emergence of a risk at a later time when it could threaten the success of the project (Cooper, Grey, Raymond, & Walker, 2005). To identify possible risks to the Baderman Island Casino-Hotel, the process was structured and used key elements to examine possible risk systematically in each area of the project. Martin Botanical Gardens Bao Weyrauch, CPA, Finance Manager, Boardman Management Group Ashly Yeamas, Manager Pepicello Fairways Dagmar Sephus, President Kelsey Ferry Company Cedrick McBroome, Director of Business Development, Patten-Fuller Community Hospital Tony Gonyer, Warden of Kelsey Prison Craig McClary, Ph.D, Principal, Kelsey High School A facilitator was appointed to conduct the brainstorming workshop and to review the procurement. The selected brainstorming team was briefed on the purpose of the workshop and the outcomes that were desired (Cooper, Grey, Raymond, & Walker, 2005). Risk were identified in the risk brainstorming workshop, then ranked, and prioritized. Each risk was assessed and given a qualitative and quantitative measurements to determine where they rank in priority, with one being the highest risk and seven being the lowest risk (see appendix B). Project Risks Monitoring: Watch Lists During a construction project such as the Baderman Island Casino-Hotel all risks must be monitored daily to ensure the impact is minimal. To monitor the project risks a watch lists has been developed. The watch list contain all the risks that are extreme or high (see appendix A). The progress and effectiveness of risks treatment actions will be reviewed, and adjustments to the Risks Action Plan will be made as needed (Cooper, Grey, Raymond, & Walker, 2005). As effective risks treatment has been completed the corresponding risks will reassessed, reclassified, or removed from the watch list. Likewise, as low or medium risks change in status and become more important or newly identified risks, will be added to the watch list. Project Risks Reporting: Milestone Progress Project risks reporting provides a summary of risks, the status treatment actions, and an indication of trends in the incidence of risks in the project (Cooper, Grey, Raymond, & Walker, 2005). To report the progress ofà the Baderman Island Casino-Hotel project and its risks a Milestone Progress report will be used. This will give the project manager and stakeholders an update on how the project is progressing. The report will match the achievements to the planned milestones. The achievements and milestones can be charted to give a visual to see progressing on time or if it is behind schedule (Simon Wallace, 2007). A project manager can also analyze the dates for milestones to determine a variance and projection for milestones (Simon Wallace, 2007). If the project gets off track for any reason this will allow the project manager to make adjustments to get back on track and to determine how much impact a risks has had on a project. Conclusion Baderman Island Resort has a very lucrative opportunity that could bring jobs and revenue to the island. Building a Silvers Casino-Hotel may pose some risks for the resort, but will be beneficial once the project is complete. The project team has identified all possible risks to the project and has put together a project risk management plan that will mitigate the risks. Monitoring and tracking the risks will help the project stay on track. Reporting of the progress of the project will be done throughout the project so that the key stakeholders and management can stay abreast of the project. Compare motivation and empowerment Motivation and empowerment are two words that are very popular in every workplace. Generally when one mention motivation, everyone would think it is what employer gives their employees, unfortunately, motivation in the workplace goes way far beyond that.Motivating your employees gives them authority to do more work for you and do it better. According to businessdictionary. com, motivation is both internal and external factors which desire and energize people to become committed to a job, role, or subject, or to strive to reach a goal. While empowerment is management practices which allow the sharing of information, power, and rewards with employees so that they can take initiative, and make decision to solve problems, and improve themselves as well as enhance their performance (www. usinessdictionary. com). Everyone need to feel empowered regarding their work ethic on the job or being assertive in life challenges and changes, but without the key elements of self-motivation, assertiveness and the ability to ma ke good decision how would they be able to motivate others. Mangers of an organization should show through their behavior and actions how provide the necessary skills to be productive and efficient. This in turn will produce happier employees. Define the components of empowermentIn order to be an effective leader a person would need to be empowering by those below them and therefore allow them to take initiative on their own. A leader that has poor management skill fails to empower anyone underneath him. For example, an office manager as well as a beginner officer within the work place or in the field must feel good about performing on their own and not feeling they will be overly scrutinized regarding their errors. They must not fear the aftermaths or punishments for taking individual decision making.When this happens, employees began to shun management for fear always doing something wrong. Employers should provide positive communication to their staff (National Empowerment Center ). There was a research designed to examine the concept word of empowerment in this programs sponsored by multiple examiner of the criminal justice it was first anticipated to create a working definition. After research the ââ¬Å"elements of empowerment were identified, including access to information, ability to make choices, assertiveness, and self-esteem. Empowerment has both an individual and a group dimension (Tom Roger, 2011).This research studied participants in self-help programs for people with no self-motivation and the need for encouragement. At the beginning of the study,â⬠it was stated numerous of the individuals involved empower in their research. Itââ¬â¢s obviously the important theory concerning the essential to defining meaning of empowerment as part of the development. Although it ââ¬Å"recognized that empowerment had elements in common with such concepts as self-esteem and self-efficacy, these concepts did not fully capture what was considered a distinc tiveness about empowermentâ⬠(Tom Roger, 2011).In an earlier ââ¬Å"debates empowerment wasâ⬠considered ââ¬Å"complex, multidimensional concept, and that it described a process rather than an eventâ⬠. Analyze the implications of empowerment and delegation in a criminal justice organization Today the style and practices of police leadership is changing rapidly. The term shared leadership is one being used by many police chiefs all across the country.They believe that this approach to management by sharing power and influence to individuals within the organization, who are otherwise hierarchical unequal, will view their leadership as a leadership which looks at the broader aspect of giving authority to employees which will allow them to make decisions, solve problems, and be held accountable for their actions (Mussellwhi te, 2007). Whenever officers are empowered they become dedicated to their jobs. Because they are given the skills, resources, authority, opportunity to be motivated and committed to their jobs, roles, or duties.Something which is refers to as being dedicated. Employees empowerment in a police department which delegate assignments, allow officers to take responsibility of their jobs results. It also allows them to make decisions about it. When officers are delegated with responsibilities, it makes them think in decision making, take control, behave, and take actions responsively, because they know that they will be held accountable for their actions. Police departments that apply employee empowerment create an environment in which their officers are empowered, productive and are happy in their jobs.Such police departments do not limit their employees to information (Heathfield, 2012). Analyze the role of trust in personnel issues. The role of trust in personnel issues involves how em ployees relate and respond to their employer. For example, if an employer is more concerned about getting the job done employees will pick up on that and will respond to their employer in a negative way. But when employersââ¬â¢ show that they truly care about their employeeââ¬â¢s well being they will respond in a positive way. It would be in the organizations best interest for employers to take time to get to know their employees.Employers should empower their staff by allowing them to make important decisions in reference to their day to day duties. This will cause employees to respect their employers which will also lead to trust. When employees trust and respect the organization they will do the best possible work they are capable of doing. This in turn will lead to accountability on the part of the employee (Mussellwhite, 2007). When an employer gains the trust of their staff, they will know how to motivate each individual person for the best outcome of the organization.Em ployees understand that no organization is a perfect organization. When employees know and feel important to the organization, respect and trust will deepen. Respect and trust will take an organization to higher creativity and increased efficiency (Forbes. com, 2009). Positive communication is the cornerstone to empowerment and trust within an organization. When employers take the time to consider their staff opinions and feedback on daily operations, this can cause higher productivity and increase efficiently. Employers should share information about the organization with their staff.This provides for a clear picture of how the organization is progressing or not progressing. This also produces trust among employees because employers trust their staff (Mussellwhite, 2007). Conclusion In conclusion, this paper compared motivation and empowerment, defined the components of empowerment, analyzed the implications of empowerment and delegation in a criminal justice organization and analy zed the role of trust in personnel issues. Motivation and empowerment is about providing production and management guidelines to employees and then allows them to operate in an independent manner.Empowerment and delegation within the criminal justice system involves sharing power and influence to individuals within the organization, who are otherwise hierarchical unequal. There are No Failed Books 3 Ways to Save a Trunk Novel - Freewrite Store Todayââ¬â¢s guest post is by author Jeff Somers.à He has published nine novels, including theà Avery Cates Seriesà of noir-science fiction novels from Orbit Books, the darkly hilarious crime novelà Chumà from Tyrus Books, and most recently tales of blood magic and short cons in theà Ustari Cycle. à à When Truman Capote died in 1984, he hadnââ¬â¢t published a major work since the absolute classic In Cold Blood in 1965. Heââ¬â¢d produced material, yes; mainly short stories and some screenplays. Some of that work had been highly regarded, but nothing on the scale and ambition of In Cold Blood or Breakfast at Tiffanyââ¬â¢s. Over the course of those two decades, Capote had transformed from a predominantly literary figure into a general celebrity, a man known for his parties, his circle of famous friends, his wit, and his television appearances more than his writing. But Capote hadnââ¬â¢t been idle. In fact, in January 1966 he signed a contract with Random House for a new novel, receiving a $25,000 advance (nearly $200,000 in 2017 money). The book proposal was ambitious: A modern reworking of Proustââ¬â¢s immense In Search of Lost Time. Capote worked on the book (titled Answered Prayers) for the next twenty years, occasionally publishing chapters from it, and renegotiating his contract twice (getting a further $750,000 in 1969 and a promise of $1 million if he ever finished the book in 1980, money he never saw). He once remarked about the book ââ¬Å"either I'm going to killà it, or it's going to kill me,â⬠and history shows who won that struggle. The unfinished draft of the novel was published posthumously. There are many possible reasons why Capote couldnââ¬â¢t finish this novel. Maybe his celebrity was too enticing and he lost his drive to create. Or it might have been the reaction early chapters received: Much of the book was a thinly veiled depiction of his high society friends and their very embarrassing behavior, which cost him those friends- something that Capote reportedly took very hard. Or maybe it was just one of those books that all authors begin and then lug around with them for years, even decades- sometimes their whole lives. We call them Trunk Novels- novels that start off with so much promise, so much excitement, and then proceed to consume hundreds of thousands of words and huge tracts of time without ever coalescing into something resembling coherency. Every author has at least one. Most of us have several. à à Too Good To Fail The problem with a Trunk Novel is thereââ¬â¢s something there. A premise or an experiment, an energy, a challenge- something that brings you back to it again and again even though you can never get it to work. You revise, you scrap and start over, you recast it in different genres, you try to put it away and forget about it, but you canââ¬â¢t. And even if you are eventually able to put the book aside, should you? After all, you put a lot of good work into it. A lot of time, ideas, and solid writing. Instead of abandoning Trunk Novels, rethink them- here are three strategies for getting them out of your trunk and into publishable shape without losing any more of your sanity or precious time. Method 1: The Mashup If youââ¬â¢ve got more than one Trunk Novel cluttering up your hard drive with its imperfect sadness, one ambitious but potentially brilliant strategy is to combine them. This requires a certain amount of overlap in terms of genre and style, of course (though it doesnââ¬â¢t have to be a perfect match, as many genres combine wonderfully well- like romance and horror) and will probably need quite a bit of fix-up revision, but it can work. (Photo byà Erwan Hesryà onà Unsplash) The reason why it works is simple: Many Trunk Novels have great stuff in them- and itââ¬â¢s often complementary stuff. One novel I was working on for years had a solid plot, a good framework of events and motives, but it lacked interesting characters and lush description. A second book, separated from the first by several years, had a cast of characters I loved spending time with, but meandered through a plot that barely qualified. Taking the two and combining them resulted in a strong novel that popped off the page. I havenââ¬â¢t sold that novel yet, but my agent is enthusiastic. Method 2: Call It Sometimes you can get caught up in the supposed ââ¬Å"rulesâ⬠of professional writing. One of those rules concerns the marketability of a novel, and specifies that in order to have any chance your novel has to hit a certain word count (80,000 words is usually the quoted number, though youââ¬â¢ll hear variations on that). And thus, were a million Trunk Novels born because writers are reluctant to admit that what theyââ¬â¢ve actually written is a novella or a short story. Writers sometimes desperately try to turn works into novels because they think novellas are impossible to sell, and short stories arenââ¬â¢t worth it in terms of money or attention. But novellas are actually easier to sell these days than in the past, thanks to digital platforms that donââ¬â¢t really care about word counts, and short stories have been having a Moment as increasing numbers of them are being adapted into film and television- see Arrival, The Grey, and Total Recall- leading many agents to reevaluate the wisdom of writers spending time and effort on shorter works. (Photo byà Simson Petrolà onà Unsplash) So, if you have a novel thatââ¬â¢s been sitting in the Trunk for a while, consider whether the problem isnââ¬â¢t the story or the writing, but itââ¬â¢s girth. Is it a novella or short story that youââ¬â¢ve been trying to bulk up to novel size? Try cutting it mercilessly down and see what you have. You might be surprised. Method 3: The Inversion Another way to save a Trunk Novel from oblivion is to run a critical eye over your assumptions about the book. That initial moment of inspiration we experience is often powerful- one of the best things about being creative is that rush of energy when you have ââ¬Å"the idea.â⬠That power also burns certain things into your brain, like who the main or POV character should be, or the tone the story needs, or the precise pacing of the plot events. Over time, these turn into assumptions- no matter how often you attack the book unsuccessfully, you never think about changing the bedrock of that initial inspiration. You become blind to the possibilities offered by other characters who might be promoted or explored, other stylistic choices, or other third acts that go off in crazy directions. (Photo byà Dardan Muà onà Unsplash) The secret sauce in this approach isnââ¬â¢t so much that you were wrong about everything from the beginning, but in the thrill of the unknown. By the time youââ¬â¢re ready to admit that a book is a Trunk Novel, thereââ¬â¢s a very good chance youââ¬â¢ve been over each scene, every line of dialog, and every plot twist many, many times. Itââ¬â¢s familiar, and familiarity breeds contempt and blindness. You canââ¬â¢t see it any more. Changing something fundamental about the book forces you into unknown territory, bringing back some of that electric buzz of discovery and revealing new ways forward. With a book stuck in Trunk Mode, that can jump-start the creative process and get you over the finish line. Not every novel can be saved, and writing a bad book is just part of being a writer- but if youââ¬â¢ve got a novel that just wonââ¬â¢t go quietly into that dusty drawer, consider trying one of these techniques to rescue it once and for all. Aliasing a Method in Ruby Takes Simple Programming To alias a method or variable name in Ruby is to create a second name for the method or variable. Aliasing can be used either to provide more expressive options to the programmer using the class or to help override methods and change the behavior of the class or object. Ruby provides this functionality with the alias and alias_method keywords. Create a Second Name The alias keyword takes two arguments: the old method name and the new method name. The method names should be passed as labels, as opposed to strings. Labels are used to refer to methods and variables without directly referencing them. If youre a new Ruby programmer, the concept of labels may seem odd, but whenever you see a label like :methodname, just read it as the thing called methodname.
